(your personal guide to creating a home workspace that you love and that is fully aligned with your ideal workflow - yep, even if you’re deep in the Aw-Fuss trenches…)
Just like everyone else, I experienced a shift to working from home in early 2020 with the onset of the pandemic. At the time, I definitely had a home workspace that I would use at times on evenings or weekends, but it wasn’t really set up for more robust use. The mixing of personal files with work papers and the blurring of boundaries between the workday and household activities quickly became the new normal.
As an architect and designer who researches and practices health and well-being with environmental design, I acknowledged that I needed to make some changes. For me, that meant creating a clear separation between work tasks and organization of those elements from household tasks. Spatial separation of these items was one easy step to begin to make. I also identified a new location in my rental home for the full-time workspace, one with northern natural daylight, a minimal aesthetic, and a selection of plants.
I have moved around a few times since then, and have developed a workspace design method that works for me each time I need to set up in a new space. The “Alignment Design” method begins with seeing inside of yourself and understanding your psychology and physiology throughout the typical workday. From there, you’ll learn to translate a more optimal pathway for your workflow into the design of your workspace.
You don’t need to know HOW (you’ll learn this in the workshop) but you do need to have a WHY - if working with more ease, energy, and flow and less fatigue, boredom, or inefficiency is something you desire, then choose to make this small but impactful investment in yourself today!
